Leadership Development & Coaching

Most people are promoted for being good at the work, then left to figure out leading on their own. We build the capacity that nobody had time to teach them, in universities, businesses, nonprofits, agencies, and school systems.

Why this is hard

The Job Changes. The Training Rarely Does.

People earn a promotion by being excellent at the job they hold. Then the work changes entirely: managing people they used to sit beside, holding a team accountable without damaging it, making decisions with incomplete information and visible consequences. Very little of that is taught anywhere.

Our team has held those seats. Superintendents, principals, deans, executive directors, HR leaders, and a former CFO. People who have made the hard call, not just read about it. That is the difference between a workshop and a conversation with someone who has been there.

Four ways we work

Where We Come In

You can hire us for one of these or all four.

01

Executive Coaching

One-on-one and small-group coaching for university presidents, deans and cabinets, nonprofit executive directors, and senior public-sector leaders. Confidential, goal-anchored, and separate from performance evaluation. Most engagements run six to twelve months.

02

Leadership Cohorts & Academies

Multi-session cohort programs that build a shared language across a leadership team, plus onboarding tracks for the newly promoted. We design the sequence, facilitate the sessions, and leave the curriculum with you.

03

Workshops & Team Training

Standalone or sequenced sessions for supervisors, teams, and boards. Nine ready-built workshops below, each customizable, or we build to a need you name.

04

Governance, Retreats & Systems

Board governance and retreat facilitation, organizational structure reviews, evaluation and HR process design, executive search advisory, and transition coaching for leaders stepping into a new seat.

Four of the Sessions We Run Most

Each runs 60 to 90 minutes and is customized to your organization before we deliver it. Run one, or sequence several into a cohort.

Clear Is Kind

Practical tools for the conversations that matter most: honest, respectful messages, expectations that stick, and dialogue that builds trust instead of spending it.

Trust, Not Tethers

Accountability without micromanaging. Clear expectations, real progress monitoring, and ownership that holds when you are not in the room.

Big Rocks First

Prioritization when everything is urgent. Participants leave with systems that reduce overwhelm rather than another framework to maintain.

The Messy Middle

The discomfort and resistance that show up right before growth. How to lead through the glitch instead of reading it as failure.

These four are a sample. Our full session library covers personality and workflow style, culture building, engagement and motivation, difficult conversations, and more. We also build to a need you name. Ask us for the catalog.

Sectors

Same Discipline, Different Rooms

Colleges & Universities

Presidents, provosts, deans and cabinets; faculty leadership and research-office capacity. Cohort academies and one-on-one coaching, including work with UNC Greensboro’s REACH Hub.

Businesses

Growing, people-centered companies where capable supervisors were promoted for their work and never formally trained to lead others. Blended training, coaching, and quarterly planning.

Nonprofits & Foundations

Executive directors carrying too many roles, and boards that need governance clarity rather than another retreat. Board training, retreat facilitation, and transition coaching.

Government & Public Agencies

Senior leaders in mission-driven and public-sector organizations, where the decision environment is political as well as operational.

K-12 Districts & Schools

Principal and assistant-principal pipelines, onboarding for the newly appointed, and competency frameworks that survive a change in leadership.

What This Looks Like in Practice

Four engagements across higher education, business, and public school systems.

Business · Wake Forest, NC

Open Desk: First-Time Supervisors

A growing, people-centered company whose supervisors were talented and motivated but had never been formally trained to manage anyone. We built a blended engagement: supervisor training sessions, one-on-one and small-group coaching, and quarterly planning.

The structure matters as much as the content. Hours flex month to month between training, coaching, and real-time problem solving, so support tracks what is actually happening in the business rather than a syllabus written in advance.

Higher education · Greensboro, NC

UNC Greensboro: REACH Academy

We designed and facilitated the REACH Academy for UNCG’s REACH Hub across two cohorts, building faculty and research-leadership capacity through a sequenced curriculum rather than one-off talks.

Sessions covered collaborative practice, backward design, and mapping a route to research success, paired with one-to-one coaching between convenings so participants applied the work to their own projects rather than filing it away.

K-12 · Durham, NC

Durham Public Schools: Five-Year Leadership Partnership

A five-year engagement developing leaders at every level of the system, including an onboarding program built specifically for newly appointed assistant principals, the group most often left to learn the role by absorbing it.

K-12 · Richland County, SC

Richland Two: Seven Schools Under State Designation

Seven schools identified for Additional Targeted Support and Improvement. They had a plan. What they did not have was a mechanism: the leadership routines and accountability structure that turn a document into weekly practice.

We built the multiyear roadmap and the mechanism underneath it, and have stayed with the district since 2024 to run it rather than handing over a binder.

How engagements work

Two Ways to Buy It

Leadership work rarely arrives on a schedule. A crisis lands, a leader resigns, a board meeting goes sideways. So we sell time rather than a fixed curriculum, and you decide month to month how it gets used.
